Art at Archean Web: The Columbia River Gorge Series
The Cascade Mountain Range along the western edge of the Pacific Northwest averages about 5,000 feet in elevation. But at the border between Oregon and Washington the mighty Cascades are sliced to the bone by the Columbia River. There, water pours through a narrow gap on its long traverse from mid North America to the Pacific Ocean. This gap is the Columbia River Gorge.
This series of artworks focuses on stylized interpretations of the natural beauty of the Columbia River Gorge and surrounding areas.
Big Sky Over the Gorge
The artwork “Big Sky Over the Gorge” places the viewer on the river bank below Crown Point. Here, the water, land and sky meet and the scenery rockets up river into the heart of the Cascades.

Bonneville Untethered
On its journey to the Pacific Ocean the Columbia River pools behind many dams. The first dam upstream of Portland is the Bonneville Dam, stretching across the river from Oregon to Washington. “Bonneville Untethered” depicts a westward looking view across the lake upstream from the dam. Mountains on the Oregon side of the river plunge into the pooled water, and the dam and its infrastructure vanish.
