Mist at Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Mist at Yaquina Head Lighthouse – Part of the West Coast Shorelines Series – (Copyright Archean Enterprises, LLC 2021. All Rights Reserved) Artist: WM House

Yaquina Head is located along the Oregon Coast just north of the town of Newport. The lighthouse has been active since 1873 and was originally known as the Cape Foulweather Lighthouse.

Original sketches and photos for this artwork were done by the artist in 2018 and the final work was completed in 2021. An ocean fog is starting to roll in off the Pacific Ocean, obscuring the horizon line and casting a veil over the upper portions of the lighthouse.

The artwork captures the interplay between the vibrant green of the Pacific Ocean and the rusty orange and red of the rugged headlands. The viewer’s eye can drift beyond the headlands into the developing fog.
