Coastal Mist

Oregon Coastal Mist

Art at ArcheanWeb: Part of the West Coast Shorelines Series

Oregon’s coastal mountains plunge into the Pacific Ocean, creating wet temperate rain forests along the northern coastline. There you can walk the beaches observing the ever-changing scenery as ocean fog rolls in off the ocean and coastal mist flows oceanward from the mountains. The back and forth opens up the views and just as quickly closes them again.

Pictures, images, and sketches from gray, overcast days often beg for color amplification. The only question is whether to amp up the color or amp it down. The artwork above was first desaturated to black and white and then over-painted, enhancing the foreground and reworking the mountains and sky.
